The length of apprentice programs will vary among different programs. This is an excellent way for individuals to learn to work in a particular career. Individuals will need to work for a sponsoring company in order to complete an apprenticeship program.
Options for Veterans and Individuals who are Unemployed
There are opportunities for individuals who are Veterans to train for a new career in the civilian sector. The same is true of many individuals who are out of work. Individuals can receive information about programs being offered in their state. Many different programs are available in New York to help individuals train for a wide array of careers. There are apprenticeships in a variety of career areas. Sponsors are likely to be found in most major cities throughout New York.
Empire State Highway Contractor’s Association
This association is currently accepting applications for a handful of apprentices. The applications will be taken at 2481 Higby Road in Frankfort New York. They are seeking skilled construction craft laborers. There will be seven spots available. There is also a need for three operating engineers and two carpenters. This apprenticeship program will provide a great opportunity for those who are accepted. The deadline to apply is January 4, 2012.
Bricklayers
There are a variety of opportunities for individuals who wish to train to become bricklayers. One example is the apprenticeship programs though the Local Union 3 of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union. They will be taking applications through January of 2012. It is necessary to visit the local Union office in Pittsford New York to apply for this opportunity. They are searching for bricklayers, tile setter apprentices and tile, marble finishers.
Asbestos Apprenticeship
There are apprenticeship programs for individuals who wish to train in the area of Asbestos, Lead and Hazardous Waste. One of the programs is offered through the Asbestos, Lead and Hazardous Waste Laborers’ Local Union #78. Individuals can apply through the office on 30 Cliff Street in New York, New York. Apprentices will be paid to train on the job and will be provided with any other necessary training.
Sheet Metal
There are apprenticeships in New York for individuals who wish to train for sheet metal professions. For instance, individuals can apply to the Sheet Metal Local #83 for sheet metal training. This training lasts for 5 years. Those enrolled in the training will receive paid training that offers on the job training education. They will also receive any necessary classroom instruction in the evenings. The office to apply is located in Albany, New York.
Plumbers and Steamfitters
There are a variety of opportunities for individuals who are looking to train to work as plumbers or steamfitters within the state of New York. For example, Local Union #22 of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Plumbers and Steamfitters is currently receiving applications for new apprentices. Applications can be made through the office on California Road in Orchard Park. The applications will be taken through the year 2012 in the month of February.
Electrical Apprenticeship
There are many different electrical apprenticeship opportunities in the state of New York. Various companies sponsor these programs making it possible for individuals to receive classroom instruction as well as hands on training to begin an electrical career. Men and women in the programs will receive pay for the hands on job experience they receive. Tri-City Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee offers a program. The program is sponsored through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association.
Painter and Finishing Apprenticeships
There are various sponsoring companies for painter and finishing apprenticeship programs. One of the opportunities being offered currently is through the Finishing Trades Institute of Western and Central New York. They are seeking individuals to work as painter apprentices to work on bridges and other steel structures. Applications for this program are available from the IUPAT, District Council Office. This office is located in Cheektowaga New York. It is from here that individuals can apply for an apprenticeship program.
Salary Information – Apprenticeship in New York
The apprentice salaries in New York will differ from occupation to occupation. An Electrician’s salary will vary widely from a Carpenter’s salary simply because they are two completely different occupations. Salaries may also differ depending on other important factors such as city, education, experience, certification and additional skills.
Bricklayers – earn averagely $62,700 per year.
Sheet Metal Workers – earn an average of $59,290 annually.
Plumbers – earn an average of $66,995 per year.
Electrician – earn averagely $58,100 yearly.
Painters – earn an average of $50,485 per year.
