Southeastern States District Council of Iron Workers is an organization overseeing multiple Locals in the State of Florida. Apprenticeship programs for those who would like to begin training as an Ironworker are available at various Locals. Before the program is complete, each apprentice must finish around 800 hours. These hours include classroom time and paid job experience. Hours can also be used as transfer credit toward earning a degree (with a 65 credit limit). As apprentices are able to complete more complex tasks, compensation will increase as well. OSHA training is included as part of the curriculum for this program. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
International Union of Operation Engineers-Miami Florida Division
The IUOE Program offered in through Miami Florida lasts for 3 years. Individuals will receive 6000 hours of on the job training. They will receive an addition 200 hours of hands on training in addition to 200 hours of instruction in a classroom setting. This apprenticeship training program is for a career as an operation engineer. Participants will learn how to operate as well as maintain heavy construction equipment. Operation Engineers can work in various trades. For instance they often work as rig drivers, fuel truck drivers and individuals who operate various other types of heavy duty equipment.
The AutoNation Automotive Apprenticeship Program of Tampa Bay INJ
This apprentice program is for individuals who wish to work as automobile mechanics. The program will prepare students to repair cars including body repairs. They will learn to write estimates and to carry out various other duties. This training program will involve completing 8000 hours of on the job training. Participants will also need to complete all required classroom instruction. Individuals will receive a regular income while they are training for this career. There are other automotive companies in Florida who are participants in automotive apprenticeships as well.
Cement Mason
Individuals can train to become cement masons through the Florida West Coast Trowel Trades JAC. They can apply for the program through the office in Tampa, Florida. This training program is for those individuals who wish to work in the cementing industry. This company sponsor also offers training programs in other trade areas. The program is one that includes 4000 hours of on the job training. Other companies will provide cement mason as well and individuals can search for such programs within their own state.
Apprenticeship Training Program of Northeast Florida Builders
There is a training program for those who wish to start a career in the building trades. Various aspects of the building trades carry sponsors (employers) and apprentice programs. For example, you could learn to be an electrician or a carpenter. Those people who are enrolled in the apprentice programs will receive payment for their own the job training. Classroom instruction will also be required. There will not be pay for this time; however, the courses will be paid for by the employer.
Optician Apprenticeship
An individual can become an optician by completing a state approved apprenticeship. These programs will generally last at least 3 years. Participants will need to finish 6,240 hours of training. The program will include apprentices gaining hands on experience as they train for this career. There will also be classroom instruction that must be completed during the apprenticeship. Optician apprentices need to have a participating sponsor. Each sponsor can only supervise an individual for 2 years at time and therefore they will need at least 2.
Wooden Farm Apprenticeship
This apprenticeship is an example of one for individuals who are seeking careers in farming. This apprenticeship is from October to May. Participants will receive a stipend for their work while learning organic crop production. Those who are involved with the program are able to opt to receive college credit. The farm has a partnership with the University of Florida. This farm is located in Punta Gorda, Florida.
