Some individuals will enter into apprentice programs to train for a career. These programs will allow individuals to train for a career while also receiving a regular income. Classroom and other instruction methods will also be provided at no cost to the apprentice. Some programs will even allow individuals to work towards obtaining a degree while also completing the apprentice program. There are many different sponsoring organizations and companies for apprenticeships in this state.
Teamsters
The Illinois Teamsters Apprenticeship Program offers individuals who want to pursue a career as a construction driver a top notch education that includes job experience with some of the best contracting companies in the state. The program requires that all apprentices complete 8000 hours in a total of four years, which includes a regular work assignment. Wages are paid for all work hours and will be raised as knowledge-base of apprentice expands. In-class training is also mandatory and is conducted on an ongoing basis throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. Other benefits included during The Illinois Teamsters Apprenticeship Program include health insurance and a pension package.

Laborer Apprentice Programs
There is a Laborers’ and Contractors’ Joint Apprenticeship Training Program in the state of Illinois. Participants in this training program will be provided with extensive on the job training over a three year span. They will also be provided with 600 hours of other training pertaining to the field. Those who are interested in this program can apply through the Apprentice and Training Program office in Mt. Sterling. An individual will need to be at least 18 before they can apply.
Electrician
There is a training program for electricians for which individuals can apply through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. They will apply through the Local 363 division. The Northern Illinois Apprenticeship Training Center is in Rockford, Illinois. Applicants will need to have completed at least one year of Algebra when they were still in high school. Electricians will receive pay during their on the job training. Other electrical training programs are likely to be found throughout the state for individuals who wish to work in electrical trades.
Ironworker
There are ironworker apprentice programs in the state of Illinois. Apprenticeship training is provided through the Ironworkers Union Local 1. This local division is located in forest Park. Participants will need to receive on the job and various types of hands on training. They will also need to finish various classes during the apprentice programs. Ironworkers do need to be in good health and should have a diploma or equivalent.
Pipe Fitting
The Chicago Pipe Fitters Local 597 has a solid reputation providing apprentice training for pipe fitters. The program will need to last for four years. Individuals will train for jobs as HVAC professionals, welders or pipe fitters. Those interested can apply through the piper fitters union. Those who are approved as apprentices will be able to receive their training for free and will be provided with pay at a percentage rate of that of journeymen.
Plumbers
The Illinois Department of Public Health is a licensing body for plumbers in the state. They make certain that plumbers safely carry out their duties when performing plumbing duties. One of the ways for an individual to become licensed is to complete an apprenticeship program. The program can last as long as six years. Those involved in an apprenticeship program will receive pay for their hands on training. They will also receive classroom instruction that they need to successfully work in the plumbing industry.

I was accepted into the program but I do not have a state issued I.D. Will a school I.D be acceptable? No. Acceptable forms of I.D are State Issued Photo I.D, Driver’s license or Passport. Please visit your local DMV to obtain your I.D.
I’m not a U.S citizen, can I participate in summer programs? Only U.S. citizens and legal residents may participate in summer programs.
How much does the program cost? Housing, meals and supplies are provided, there is no fee. However, there is a $50 fee for equipment and technology usage.
